Yoruba self-determination advocate, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has launched the Ekiti State chapter of the Iru Ekun Security Network.

Igboho launched the community security initiative on Thursday during a visit to the palace of the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe Aladesanmi III.

Commander Ifatosin Ilori will lead the Ekiti State chapter of the network.

Igboho said the initiative would support conventional security agencies in the fight against kidnapping, banditry and other security threats across the Southwest.

He claimed that the network now has more than 120,000 members. He added that members would work with the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services and other security agencies.

Igboho also claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu gave him permission to return to Nigeria and launch the security initiative.

He said his visit to the Ewi’s palace would also strengthen cooperation between the network and traditional rulers in Ekiti State.

Speaking with journalists after the visit, Igboho said the police were doing their best but needed additional support to maintain peace across the Southwest.

“The police are trying their best. I just want to support them to make peace reign in all our land in the Southwest,” he said.

Igboho urged members of the network to focus on their security responsibilities and avoid interfering in domestic disputes.

He also told members to respect traditional rulers and undergo proper training before carrying out their duties.

The Ewi of Ado-Ekiti welcomed the initiative and commended efforts aimed at improving security in the state.

The monarch said insecurity could undermine development because businesses and communities need a peaceful environment to thrive.

Igboho also thanked the people and traditional rulers of Ekiti State for their support during his mother’s burial.

He said about 10 Ekiti monarchs attended the burial.

During the visit, Chief Jacob Osamika presented Igboho with an award in recognition of his support for Ekiti State.
