Ojuawo Media Team Denies Link to ICPC Invitation of APC Candidate Okoro
The media team of Hon. Rufus Adeniyi Ojuawo, member representing Ekiti South Federal Constituency I in the House of Representatives, has denied any connection between its principal and the invitation of APC candidate, Engr. Toyin Okoro, by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The team made the clarification in a statement issued in response to claims circulating on social media linking Ojuawo to Okoro’s invitation by the anti-corruption agency.
According to the statement, Ojuawo “neither initiated, sponsored, facilitated nor had prior knowledge” of the invitation and only became aware of it after information about the matter began circulating publicly.
The media team described claims linking the lawmaker to the ICPC invitation as false and without foundation, urging the public not to associate Ojuawo with an official process being handled by the commission.
Okoro, the APC candidate for the federal constituency, was recently questioned by ICPC operatives over allegations relating to fraud, conflict of interest and alleged false declarations. Reports indicate that the investigation concerns issues surrounding his alleged involvement in a private company while serving as a legislative aide at the National Assembly, as well as other documents under examination by the commission. The allegations have not been established as findings of guilt.
The Ojuawo Media Team said the ICPC should be allowed to carry out its responsibilities without political interference, adding that anyone invited by the commission should be given the opportunity to respond to questions raised during the investigation.
It also rejected what it described as an attempt to turn the investigation into a political issue by linking Ojuawo to Okoro’s invitation.
The statement further advised Okoro to address any concerns arising from his interaction with the commission through the appropriate legal and administrative channels rather than involving Ojuawo.
The development comes against the backdrop of the APC House of Representatives primary election in Ekiti South Federal Constituency I, where Okoro defeated Ojuawo to secure the party’s ticket. Officially reported results showed Okoro polling 9,798 votes against Ojuawo’s 1,842 votes.
The Ojuawo Media Team said its principal remained focused on his legislative responsibilities and called on supporters and members of the public to refrain from circulating claims linking him to the ICPC invitation without evidence.
It also urged political actors to separate political contests from personal attacks and maintain responsible political engagement.
