Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has approved the immediate dissolution of boards, commissions and parastatals across the state, while also terminating the appointments of political appointees as his administration prepares for the commencement of his second term.

The decision, announced on Sunday by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, affects political appointees serving in various capacities, including Special Assistants (SAs), Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) and Technical Assistants (TAs).

According to the state government, the development is part of the process of winding down the Governor’s first term ahead of the inauguration of his second term in office, scheduled for October 16, 2026.

The dissolution affects boards, commissions and parastatals under the state government, although the government clarified that some statutory institutions and key governing bodies are exempted from the exercise.

The government said the chairmen and members of certain statutory boards are not affected by the dissolution. Among the institutions excluded are the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), Civil Service Commission, House of Assembly Service Commission and Judicial Service Commission.

The governing councils of all state-owned tertiary institutions will also remain in place, in accordance with earlier directives issued by the Governor. The government explained that the decision to retain these bodies is consistent with existing arrangements governing the institutions.

The state government also clarified the situation concerning three important boards. While the boards of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Local Government Service Commission and Teaching Service Commission have been dissolved, their respective chairmen will remain in office.

This means that the dissolution does not extend to the chairmen of the three bodies, who are expected to continue in their respective positions.

The government further disclosed that the termination of political appointments does not affect Directors-General and Technical Advisers to the Governor. They are therefore expected to continue in their respective roles despite the broader restructuring of political appointments and dissolution of boards.

Reacting to the development, Governor Oyebanji expressed appreciation to the affected political appointees for their contributions to his administration and service to Ekiti State. The Governor acknowledged their various contributions to the administration’s activities and wished them success in their future endeavours.

The latest development comes as the Oyebanji administration moves toward the formal commencement of his second term following the conclusion of his first tenure. The October 16 inauguration will mark the beginning of the Governor’s second term, with the latest administrative changes bringing the current cycle of political appointments and several government boards to an end.

The state government has not, in the statement, announced details of any new appointments or the timeline for reconstituting the dissolved boards.
