Ekiti Government Declares October 5 Work-Free for Teachers, Public School Students to Stay Home
The Ekiti State Government has declared Monday, October 5, 2026, a work-free day for teachers across the state to enable them participate fully in activities marking the 2026 World Teachers’ Day.
The Commissioner for Education, Dr Olabimpe Aderiye, announced the decision in a statement issued on Thursday, explaining that the gesture was aimed at giving teachers sufficient opportunity to join their colleagues and other stakeholders in commemorating the annual event.
According to the Commissioner, the celebration provides an opportunity to recognise the important role teachers play in shaping the educational development of the state and nurturing the next generation.
As a result of the declaration, all day students attending public schools across Ekiti State are expected to stay at home on Monday, October 5, while teachers participate in the activities lined up to mark the occasion.
The Commissioner urged parents and guardians to take note of the arrangement and make the necessary preparations, while school authorities were also directed to ensure that students and other relevant stakeholders are properly informed.
Aderiye commended teachers across the state for their dedication, professionalism and continued commitment to educating and mentoring young people despite the demands of the profession.
She congratulated Ekiti teachers on the occasion of the 2026 World Teachers’ Day and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to recognising and supporting their contributions to the education sector.
The Commissioner noted that teachers remain central to the development of Ekiti’s education system, stressing the importance of their work in preparing children and young people for the future.
The October 5 work-free day will therefore allow teachers across the state to participate in the World Teachers’ Day celebrations while public-school students observe the temporary break.
