Governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Engr. Kayode Ojo, has appealed to his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding in the face of alleged attacks, arrests, intimidation, and persecution by individuals suspected to be agents of the state government.
In a swift but brief message from Europe, where he is currently on an official trip, Engr. Ojo condemned Saturday’s attack on some of his supporters during a peaceful political gathering in Otun Ekiti, describing the incident as “unfortunate, barbaric, and uncalled for.”
He commended his followers for their peaceful conduct and urged them not to retaliate, emphasizing that his ambition does not warrant the loss of any Ekiti indigene’s life.
“My ambition is not worth the blood of any Ekiti citizen. I urge all my supporters to stay calm and remain law-abiding,” Ojo stated.
The APC governorship hopeful pledged to cover the medical expenses of those injured in the attack and assured them of a personal visit upon his return to the country.
Engr. Ojo, who currently serves as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), also called on security agencies in Ekiti State to remain neutral and prioritize the protection of lives and property, regardless of political affiliation.
“Security personnel must rise above partisanship. The safety of every citizen must be their utmost concern,” he added.
The incident has sparked widespread reactions within political circles in the state, with many calling for an investigation into the recurring violence ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
