In a surprising political development, Hon. Yemi Arokodare, a former member of the House of Representatives and one-time Federal Commissioner of the Public Complaints Commission, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a letter dated July 23, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward D in Ijero Ekiti, Arokodare stated that his decision followed extensive re consultations with family, friends, political leaders, and associates. He noted that while the decision was not an easy one, the time had come for him to explore new perspectives and opportunities for service, growth, and impact.
“This was not an easy decision for me,” he wrote. “Being a member of this party has been a significant part of my life. Over the years, I have worked with passion and conviction alongside many others who believe in the vision and ideals we stand for.”
Reflecting on his journey in the PDP, Arokodare acknowledged the party’s role in shaping his political identity. He expressed gratitude for the victories, challenges, and transformations experienced over the years, saying he would always cherish the friendships, mentorship, and lessons gained during his time in the party.
Although he did not state his next political move, his exit is expected to stir speculations and realignments within Ekiti’s political space, especially as the state inches closer to the next electoral cycle.
Arokodare served in the House of Representatives between 2003 and 2007. He was later appointed as a Special Adviser on Special Duties to two Speakers of the House of Representatives (2007–2015), and served as a Federal Commissioner at the Public Complaints Commission (Nigerian Ombudsman) from 2015 to 2021.
