The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has clarified its position on the upcoming National Assembly elections, affirming that Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, former Governor John Kayode Fayemi, Asiwaju Segun Oni, and former Minister Adeniyi Adebayo have not endorsed any aspirant.
While acknowledging that endorsements may be politically recognised in some quarters, the party emphasized that no aspirant is barred from contesting and that all must go to the field to test their political weight. The APC stressed that internal democracy, as outlined in Article 20 of the party’s constitution, remains sacrosanct, providing a level playing field for all contestants.
Governor Oyebanji reiterated his neutrality, while Dr. Fayemi urged aspirants to focus on winning the hearts of party members rather than relying on perceived endorsements. Similarly, Segun Oni and Otunba Adebayo encouraged respect for the party’s democratic processes and guidelines.
In a statement signed by the APC State Publicity Secretary, Segun Dipe, the party declared: “Our leaders have spoken: let every aspirant go to the field and test his/her political weight. Where consensus doesn’t work, the direct primary option will be applied as provided in our Constitution.”
The statement reinforces the party’s commitment to fairness, transparency, and internal democracy ahead of the 2027 elections, ensuring that all aspirants have equal opportunity to contest and that no individual misrepresents the positions of the party’s leadership.
