The Oyo State House of Assembly has unanimously thrown its weight behind the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, endorsing him as the preferred candidate to succeed Governor Seyi Makinde in the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was formally moved during plenary on Wednesday, April 8, by the Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Fadeyi, who led the motion on behalf of members of the House.
Fadeyi, while addressing the Assembly, described Ogundoyin as a stabilising force within the legislative arm of government, noting that lawmakers had collectively resolved to mobilise support across the state to back his governorship ambition. He further expressed confidence that the Speaker possesses the experience, capacity, and leadership qualities required to sustain and build on the achievements of the Makinde administration.
In their separate contributions, members of the House, including the Majority Leader, Sanjo Adedoyin, also commended Ogundoyin’s leadership style, describing him as a dependable and result-oriented figure who has consistently demonstrated competence beyond expectations.
Other lawmakers at the plenary echoed similar sentiments, unanimously pledging their support for his aspiration, while stressing that his performance as Speaker has positioned him as a credible successor to Governor Makinde in 2027.
Ogundoyin, who represents Ibarapa East State Constituency on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has continued to play a key role in the state’s legislative affairs since assuming office as Speaker.
The development is already generating political reactions across the state as preparations toward the 2027 elections gradually gather momentum.
