During the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election on Saturday at Stella Maris College, Okitipupa, violence erupted between supporters of two rival aspirants vying for the party’s ticket in the upcoming Ondo State Governorship election on November 16.
A large number of accredited APC members had gathered early to participate in the election process, but chaos ensued when clashes broke out among the rival supporters. The violence erupted before the accreditation and voting procedures could commence, causing panic and prompting voters to flee for their safety.
An anonymous accredited voter informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that one of the aspirants’ agents arrived at the ward, snatched the validation and accreditation papers, and immediately fled the venue in a car.
“The agent suddenly appeared, seized the validation and accreditation papers, and quickly made his escape. Despite attempts to apprehend him, he managed to evade capture. This incident triggered the outbreak of violence,” the voter explained.
The security agents present at the ward were unable to control the situation, leading to a dispersal of everyone present at the scene.
