The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has criticized delays in the payment of November salaries for federal polytechnic staff. ASUP President Shamma S. Kpania and Secretary General Lawani F. Jimoh pinpointed key issues in a letter addressed to the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation.
ASUP holds the Accountant General’s office responsible for failing to transfer staff records needed for institutions to transition to the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) platform. Additionally, the office has not enrolled key personnel or released pass codes required for processing payments.
ASUP Secretary General Lawani F. Jimoh expressed frustration over the situation. “We call on the government to act immediately. Our members cannot keep suffering due to the negligence of government officials,” he stated.
The union warns that further delays could result in industrial action, which would severely affect academic activities. By pushing for a timely resolution, ASUP aims to safeguard the welfare of its members and ensure smooth operations in the education sector.
ASUP has urged its members to remain calm and patient while it engages with relevant authorities to resolve the issue. The union also calls on the government to engage in constructive dialogue to prevent similar crises in the future.
