The attention of concerned stakeholders and loyal members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has been drawn to deeply troubling developments under the leadership of the State Chairman, Rt. Hon. Tunji Odeyemi. These developments raise serious questions about accountability, transparency, and the future of the party in the state.
Most troubling is the party’s inability to pay rent for over seven years, which reportedly led to the humiliating eviction from its rented office. This failure was not due to lack of resources, but allegedly because party funds were misappropriated or diverted, undermining the operational capacity and public image of the PDP in Ekiti. A party that cannot manage its basic administrative responsibilities sends a message of weakness to the public and its members.
It has further been alleged that Hon. Odeyemi has been collecting money from the governorship aspirants while deliberately preventing the PDP from producing a candidate ahead of the June 20 governorship election. Reports suggest that he has been content with the party’s internal crises and that it has never been his wish to see the PDP present a candidate for the state gubernatorial election come June 20.
Further allegations indicate that the chairman allegedly mismanaged about 48 million naira, reportedly part of the nominated form fees paid by governorship aspirants. Instead of ensuring these funds were properly accounted for and used to strengthen the party, he appears more interested in personal enrichment and self-interest than in ensuring the PDP’s success in Ekiti.
Even more concerning are allegations that the chairman may be acting in the interest of the APC, rather than the PDP. Since Sen. Olujimi, who facilitated his emergence, defected to the APC, he reportedly continues to follow her directives, raising questions about his loyalty and political allegiance.
In addition to these financial and partisan concerns, Hon. Odeyemi has been unable to manage internal party issues, allowing divisions, conflicts, and crises to fester under his watch. Leadership of a major party demands transparency, accountability, and dedication to party principles, not personal gain, partisan manipulation, or neglect of administrative duties.
The conduct alleged under Hon. Odeyemi’s tenure is unacceptable and severely jeopardizes the PDP’s credibility, unity, and electoral prospects in Ekiti State.
It has become clear that the chairman has repeatedly told lies to party members, stakeholders, and the public. From justifying the party’s eviction from its rented office to misrepresenting the state of party finances, his statements have consistently contradicted facts on the ground. Such habitual dishonesty undermines trust, weakens the party’s credibility, and raises serious doubts about his ability to lead the PDP effectively in Ekiti State.
We therefore call on PDP authorities and other stakeholders to urgently investigate these allegations, ensure proper oversight, and take decisive action to restore discipline, transparency, and credible leadership within the Ekiti State chapter.
The future of the PDP in Ekiti State depends on leaders who prioritize the party above personal interests. The time for accountability and corrective action is now.
Signed:
Concerned Stakeholders and Loyal Members
