In a move to address the backlog of outstanding gratuity payments, Governor Biodun Oyebanji has approved the disbursement of ₦1 billion to retired civil servants in the state.
The payment fulfills the Governor’s pledge to prioritize the welfare and wellbeing of workers and pensioners in Ekiti State. Previous administrations had accumulated a backlog of unpaid gratuities, causing financial hardship for many retirees.
“This is part of our administration’s commitment to the senior citizens who have contributed immensely to the development of our state,” Governor Oyebanji said. “We understand the challenges they face, and we are working to ensure their welfare is given the priority it deserves.”
The Governor urged retirees to remain calm and optimistic, as the state government is devoted to addressing their needs. This latest disbursement is expected to provide much-needed financial relief to Ekiti State’s retired civil servants.
Yinka Oyebode, the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, stated that the administration is dedicated to fulfilling its pledge to offset the backlog of gratuities owed by previous governments. This move is seen as a positive step towards restoring the confidence of public sector workers in the state.
