The media office of Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the former Governor of Ekiti State, has strongly refuted claims made by Senator Cyril Fasuyi during today’s Senate plenary, alleging that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan had previously accused Dr. Fayemi of sexual harassment.
In a statement signed by Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, Head of the Fayemi Media Office, the claim was described as entirely false and unfounded. The statement clarified that neither Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan nor any other individual had ever made such allegations against Dr. Fayemi.
It appears that the Distinguished Senator from Ekiti inadvertently misrepresented the facts, as no such allegation has ever been made against Dr. Fayemi, the statement read.
Addressing another claim made by Senator Fasuyi, the media office dismissed the suggestion that Dr. Fayemi would be submitting a petition to the Senate in response to the purported allegation. The statement suggested that in his attempt to defend the Senate President, Senator Fasuyi might have “conflated events, leading to a misrepresentation of facts.
The media office further clarified that Dr. Fayemi’s only professional engagement with Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was during his tenure as Minister of Mines and Steel Development, where he handled policy matters concerning the Ajaokuta Steel Company. While both individuals may have held differing views on the future of the company at the time, their interactions remained strictly professional, and no allegations of misconduct were ever made.
The statement concluded with a call for Senator Fasuyi to verify facts before making public statements on sensitive matters, warning that such misinformation could damage reputations.
Dr. Fayemi, the media office emphasized, remains committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity in public service and rejects any attempt to associate his name with baseless allegations.
