In a move to prepare students for the evolving demands of today’s workforce, the Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Oyo State, through its Career Services Centre and in collaboration with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), is set to host a one-day career training aimed at enhancing the employability and career clarity of its students.
The event, which is scheduled to hold on Thursday at the Polytechnic’s TETFund Auditorium, targets National Diploma (ND) II students across all departments. According to a statement released by the institution’s media office on Wednesday in Ibadan, the initiative reflects the school’s commitment to bridging the gap between academic knowledge and the practical realities of the workplace.
With the theme, “Navigating the Modern Workplace: Trends and Insights,” the training is part of the school’s broader ‘Town-and-Gown’ policy, designed to foster stronger collaboration between the academic environment and industry players. The programme will expose students to real-world experiences and trends by creating opportunities for direct interaction with human resource professionals, corporate executives, and industry experts from various sectors.
The Career Services Centre noted that many students often struggle to find the right career path even after graduation. It said the programme was created to offer timely guidance on career decision-making, skill development, mentorship, and personal branding. According to the statement, participants are expected to learn how to choose suitable mentors, identify and work on their personal weaknesses, and pursue careers that align with their passions and strengths.
Highlighting the significance of the training, the Centre explained that it aims to bring students out of the confines of theory-based learning and engage them in meaningful, practical conversations that can shape their future. The training will also include interactive sessions and career counseling that equip students with insights into current recruitment practices and industry expectations.
In response to the initiative, the Chairman of the Governing Council of the Polytechnic, Hon. Yakubu Dati (FNIPR), expressed his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, for their unwavering support in promoting capacity-building initiatives through TETFund. He praised the federal government’s continuous investment in education and its emphasis on workforce readiness among young Nigerians.
“We are grateful for the support of the federal government through TETFund,” Dati said. “Such initiatives are not only helping to elevate the quality of education in our institutions but are also instrumental in preparing students to meet the demands of the modern labour market.”
The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed (FNSE), also commended the role of TETFund in supporting educational advancement and applauded the initiative for its focus on the future of the students. He described the training as a meaningful step in building an institution that goes beyond theoretical learning to deliver real-world impact.
“This training reflects our commitment to preparing students not only for exams but for life beyond the classroom,” the Rector said. “We deeply appreciate the backing of President Tinubu and Dr. Alausa for providing institutions like ours with the support needed to implement impactful programmes.”
Engr. Dr. T. M. Adepoju, Director of the Career Services Centre, expressed his appreciation to the Rector and the entire management team for creating an enabling environment that supports student-focused programmes. He emphasized that the training represents just one aspect of a broader strategy to build a career-driven educational culture at Federal Polytechnic Ayede.
According to Dr. Adepoju, the Centre is committed to delivering consistent career support through counseling, strategic partnerships, and targeted skill development initiatives. He noted that such efforts are aimed at ensuring students graduate not only with certificates but also with the confidence and competence to excel in the professional world.
As the Polytechnic continues to align its programmes with global trends in workforce development, this initiative marks another milestone in its mission to produce graduates who are well-rounded, industry-ready, and capable of making meaningful contributions to society.
