The Federal Government has begun accepting applications for the newly introduced Tertiary Institution Staff Support Fund (TISSF), a scheme designed to enhance the welfare, financial security, and professional development of both academic and non-teaching staff in Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
The initiative, jointly developed by the Federal Ministry of Education and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), offers eligible staff members access to loans of up to ₦10 million, with disbursements capped at 33.3 per cent of each applicant’s gross annual salary. The support package aims to provide a financial cushion for education sector workers while also fostering capacity-building and long-term career growth.
In an internal memo signed by Mr. Muyiwa Harrison, Deputy Registrar, on behalf of the Registrar of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), staff members were informed that the application portal @ https://tissf.education.gov.ng/ is now live. The memo also encouraged potential applicants to participate in the virtual launch of the programme on August 14, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, via Microsoft Teams.
The TISSF marks a significant step in the Federal Government’s drive to improve staff welfare in the tertiary education sector, following years of agitation over inadequate remuneration and limited professional development opportunities. With the launch, stakeholders are hopeful the scheme will ease financial pressures, boost morale, and ultimately contribute to improved service delivery in higher institutions across the country.
