In preparation for the local government elections in Oyo State, Honorable Opeyemi Semiu Folarin, a prominent member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has defected to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ido local government.
Honorable Folarin’s move to the PDP indicates that the NNPP’s structure in all ten wards of Ido local government has collapsed, as they now support the administration led by Governor Seyi Makinde.
Upon receiving Honorable Folarin and his numerous followers from all wards in Ido council, the state secretary of the PDP, Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke, encouraged the new members, led by Honorable Folarin, to work harmoniously with existing members to ensure the PDP’s victory in the upcoming local government election. The goal is to continue delivering the dividends of democracy to all council areas in the state.
Alhaji Adeleke acknowledged the political influence of Honorable Folarin and stated that the Ido PDP has been further strengthened in preparation for the April 27 local government election.
During his address to his supporters, Honorable Opeyemi Semiu Folarin praised Governor Seyi Makinde’s leadership style and the developmental programs aimed at transforming every part of the state. He emphasized that in less than five years in office, the Seyi Makinde-led administration has strategically restored Oyo State’s status as a pace-setter through various unprecedented development projects.
Honorable Folarin also commended Honorable Sheriff Adeojo, the chairman of Ido local government, for replicating Governor Seyi Makinde’s good governance style in his council area.
“Now that I have fully joined the PDP, the progress of the party will be my utmost priority. All my loyalists, from ward 1 to 10, will work tirelessly to ensure the victory of Honorable Sheriff Adeojo in the April 27 local government election,” Honorable Folarin affirmed.
He further explained, “Since I joined NNPP in Ido local government, I have been the one financing the party. I only met five members before joining NNPP in the council area. There was no strong political structure for the NNPP in Ido local government. I used my own money and political influence to drive the party in the council area. As of today, I am no longer under the leadership of Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan, the South West leader of NNPP,” Honorable Folarin concluded.
