Former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Prof. Kolapo Olubunmi Olusola-Eleka, has officially resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), marking a significant political development within the state’s opposition structure.
In a resignation letter dated July 24, 2025, addressed to the chairman of the PDP in Okeruku Ward (Ward 02), Ikere Local Government Area, Prof. Olusola stated that his decision was made after deep consultations and personal reflection. He cited a loss of direction within the PDP as the main reason for his exit, noting that the party had “significantly derailed from the part of constructive opposition and credible leadership that once defined its identity.”
Prof. Olusola, who served as Deputy Governor of Ekiti State from 2014 to 2018 under former Governor Ayo Fayose, also ran as the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate in the 2018 elections. In his letter, he expressed gratitude to the party for the platform it provided him to serve, and to members and supporters who had stood by him over the years.
“I remain deeply grateful for the trust and responsibilities vested in me,” he wrote. “However… I find it difficult to continue associating with the PDP in its current state.”
While he did not disclose his next political move, his resignation is already sparking conversations about possible realignments ahead of the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State.
The resignation letter, officially received and acknowledged by the local ward chairman, Mr. Theommy Emmanuel Adegoke, has added fresh momentum to ongoing debates about the future of the PDP in Ekiti.
Prof. Olusola’s exit is expected to have a ripple effect, particularly in Ikere axis where he remains a strong grassroots figure.
