As the Edo State Governorship Election Tribunal prepares to deliver its judgment on Wednesday, Governor Monday Okpebholo has called for peace and unity among residents and members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Governor Okpebholo reassured the people of Edo State of his commitment to democratic values and the rule of law. He urged all residents to respect the tribunal’s decision, emphasizing that the legal process is a crucial component of Nigeria’s democracy.
We have witnessed a vibrant and competitive electoral process, and I respect the legal avenues available to all parties. The tribunal’s decision is a crucial part of our democratic process, and we must all respect its authority, the governor said.
He also appealed for calm and urged political leaders, community figures, and citizens to maintain peace, avoid misinformation, and prioritize the state’s development over political differences.
I have full confidence in our judiciary and its ability to deliver a fair and just judgment. I also have faith in the resilience and maturity of our people. Let us show the nation that we are people committed to democracy, peace, and progress, he added.
The governor’s message comes amid heightened anticipation ahead of the tribunal ruling, which will determine the outcome of the last governorship election in the state.
Residents and political stakeholders are expected to abide by his call for peace as they await the tribunal’s verdict.
