In a major political shake-up, Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has announced the immediate dissolution of the State Executive Council. The decision, communicated late Sunday by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro, affects all Commissioners and Special Advisers.
Those relieved of their duties have been directed to hand over to the Permanent Secretary or the most senior civil servant in their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
Despite the sweeping dissolution, several key officials were retained. Exempted from the directive are the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, the Commissioner for Education, the Commissioner for Works, and the Commissioner for Trade, Investment, Industry and Cooperatives. Also retained are the Special Adviser on Special Education and Social Inclusion and the Special Adviser on Lands, Survey and e-GIS.
In addition, all Directors-General serving on the Executive Council will continue in their roles. These include the DG of the Office of Transformation and Service Delivery (OTSD), the DG of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Project Monitoring, and the DG of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).
While the government did not provide an official reason for the move, political observers believe it may be part of preparations for the upcoming gubernatorial primaries scheduled for October 2, 2025. The decision is seen as a strategic realignment aimed at strengthening the administration while maintaining stability in critical sectors of governance.
