In a recent development, Hon. (AVM Rtd) Ojuawo Rufus Adeniyi, the Honourable member representing Ekiti South Federal Constituency 1, has called for a comprehensive investigation into the tragic death of Master Damilola Iyanda. The young man lost his life due to the reckless actions of a trigger-happy policeman in Ogbomosho.
Damilola Iyanda, a corps member hailing from Ogotun Ekiti, had been assigned to serve in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State. However, he traveled to Ogbomosho to celebrate his younger brother’s graduation from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology.
During a session on the floor of the house, Hon. Ojuawo passionately moved a motion highlighting the urgent need to investigate the horrifying killing of Damilola Iyanda.
He strongly condemned the incident as highly unprofessional and expressed his deep concern over the loss of a promising young man who had the potential to contribute significantly to national development.
Hon. Ojuawo called upon the house to request the Inspector General of Police to promptly initiate a thorough investigation into the matter and provide appropriate compensation to the grieving family.
He also emphasized the importance of ensuring that police personnel receive proper training in handling firearms to prevent the senseless loss of innocent lives.
The motion received unanimous support from the house, with members seconding and adopting it.
The Inspector General of Police was subsequently urged to take immediate action in investigating the incident and implementing measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
