The Honourable Member representing Ekiti South Federal Constituency, Hon. (AVM Rtd) Ojuawo Rufus Adeniyi, recently visited the constituency’s empowerment farm site in Ogbese to inspect the progress of the farm and encourage the participating farmers.
The visit comes a few months after the initial Agricpreneur training program, where farmers in the constituency were trained on cultivating various crops, including tomatoes, okra, peppers, vegetables, and cucumbers. The Ogbese farm is currently filled with thriving tomato plantations, with the harvest expected to commence in the coming weeks.
The comprehensive empowerment initiative has progressed through several key stages:
1. Agricpreneur training for local farmers
2. Securing a suitable farm site in Ogbese
3. Constructing a greenhouse nursery
4. Land preparation
5. Nursery stage
6. Transplanting to the main plots
7. Weeding, lining, and pecking
8. Applying fertilizers and herbicides
In addition to the Ogbese farm, Hon. Ojuawo has also secured 5 hectares of land in Ogotun Ekiti for farmers in Ekiti South West to cultivate peppers, with the planting set to begin shortly.
The Honourable Member’s visit was aimed at closely monitoring the progress of the farm and providing encouragement and support to the participating farmers, who are expected to benefit from the empowerment program through increased yields and income.
