Otunba Peter Olugbenga Obafemi, a governorship aspirant in Ekiti State for next year’s election, has expressed strong confidence in his emergence as the next governor.
During a media interaction in Ibadan on Thursday, Obafemi emphasized his commitment to delivering good governance and ensuring the people of Ekiti State benefit from the dividends of democracy. However, he declined to reveal his core plans, stating that they are strategic and will remain undisclosed for now.
“I am in this race to ensure that the people of Ekiti State enjoy the true dividends of democracy,” Obafemi stated. “Unlike many technocrats who avoid politics because they see it as a dirty game, I have chosen to actively participate in serving my state and making a significant impact on the lives of my people.”
He explained that his decision to contest was not accidental but part of a deliberate and well-researched plan to improve the state.
“I will bring the genuine change that the people of Ekiti State are yearning for,” he added. “For now, I will keep my strategies private to prevent others from copying them. However, I assure you that I will embark on impactful projects that will touch lives positively.”
Obafemi highlighted key areas he plans to focus on, including reviving neglected industries, creating jobs for youths, and advancing agricultural development. He also mentioned plans to collaborate with the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) to expand agriculture and ensure food security while engaging youths in productive activities.
On security and economic empowerment, Obafemi promised to prioritize peace and create opportunities for residents to thrive in their various trades and businesses.
As an indigene of Ikole-Ekiti in Ikole Local Government Area, Obafemi described himself as a grassroots politician, seasoned businessman, and aviation expert. He is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and assured the people of his dedication to their well-being.
“Peace is my priority,” he declared. “Anything that promotes peace and progress for my people will remain my focus.”
Obafemi expressed optimism that his administration would usher in a new era of development, prosperity, and genuine transformation for Ekiti State.
