NBTE Urges Polytechnics and Monotechnics to Ensure Safety of Staff and Students during Protest

The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has issued an urgent directive to all Polytechnics and Monotechnics in Nigeria to take proactive measures to ensure the security and safety of staff, students, and institutional property during planned nationwide protests.

In a letter from the NBTE Executive Secretary, Professor Idris M. Bugaje, it was revealed that the Honourable Minister of Education has been made aware of plans by unknown groups to hold nationwide protests. While the Federal Government respects the right to peaceful protest, there are concerns about the potential risks to the lives and safety of the Polytechnic and Monotechnic communities.

Professor Bugaje has directed all Governing Councils and Rectors/Provosts to take necessary steps to secure their institutions. This includes issuing specific statements to assure staff and students of their safety. Additionally, students are advised to remain on campus to focus on their academic pursuits and avoid exposure to any dangers during the planned protests.

The NBTE Executive Secretary emphasized the importance of vigilance during this period and urged the institutions to prioritize the protection of their communities. The directive comes as the nation braces for the potential impact of the nationwide protests on the education sector.
