Nigeria to Review Minimum Wage Every 3 Years Under New Policy

In a move aimed at ensuring fair compensation for Nigerian workers, President Bola Tinubu has announced plans to review the national minimum wage every three years.

This decision marks a significant departure from the previous practice of irregular reviews, which often left workers waiting for years without a pay increase.

“Our workers are the backbone of this nation, and they deserve to be compensated fairly,” President Tinubu stated during a press conference. “That is why we are committed to reviewing the minimum wage on a regular basis, to make sure it keeps up with the cost of living.”

Under the new policy, the first minimum wage review will take place in 2027. Subsequent reviews will follow every three years thereafter.

The announcement has been widely praised by labor unions and worker advocacy groups, who see it as a major victory in the fight for workers’ rights.

“This is a game-changer for Nigerian workers,” said Adams Oshiomhole, the President of the Nigeria Labor Congress. “Regular minimum wage reviews will go a long way in improving the standard of living for millions of Nigerians.”

The new policy is expected to take effect immediately, providing much-needed relief for workers struggling with the rising cost of living in the country.
