The Nigerian Army has officially announced the relocation of the 148 Battalion (148 Bn), a COAS Reserve Battalion III, to its new permanent location in Ikere, Ekiti State. The decision follows a thorough review by the Nigerian Army ORBAT 2023 committee, which identified Ikere as a more strategic and operationally suitable location for the unit.
Initially established to be based in Ado-Ekiti and later proposed for Ipoti-Ekiti, 148 Battalion was designed as an intervention force capable of rapid deployment to southern Nigeria. In the interim, the unit has been operating out of Joe Akahan Barracks in Makurdi, Benue State.
However, it was noted that the battalion had not yet transitioned to its permanent location. Following recommendations from the ORBAT 2023 review, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) approved the change in the battalion’s location to Ikere.
This move is expected to enhance the unit’s readiness and effectiveness in responding to security challenges in the region. The Nigerian Army Headquarters, through an official communication dated 13 January 2025, has directed the implementation of this decision and urged all stakeholders to acknowledge and facilitate the relocation process.
The relocation underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to improving operational efficiency and addressing emerging security concerns across the country.
