Prophet Adeniyi James, the General Overseer of Christ Apostolic Church Freedom City Prophetic and Deliverance Ministry, has been apprehended by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The arrest took place in Ilorin, Kwara State, following allegations of defrauding a church member of the sum of N3.9 million.
According to Dele Oyewale, the Head of Media and Publicity for the EFCC, the Ilorin Zonal Command of the commission detained James on April 2. The arrest came as a result of a petition filed by Oluwole Babarinsa, the victim, who claimed that during a church program in 2021, James called him out and prophesied that he would travel abroad.
Babarinsa stated that during the prophetic revelation, James inquired about his desired destination, to which he responded “Canada.” They agreed to discuss further details later to facilitate the trip. Subsequently, James informed Babarinsa that he had a contact in Lagos who could assist him in relocating to Canada. However, this assistance came at a cost of N1.7 million for processing flight tickets and N2.5 million for travel documents.
To raise the required sum of N3,980,000, Babarinsa resorted to selling some of his properties and taking loans. He handed over the money to the prophet for the purpose of expediting his relocation to Canada. However, as time passed without any progress, Babarinsa grew concerned and began questioning the legitimacy of James’ vision. Consequently, he demanded a refund of his money, but his pleas were met with resistance.
The EFCC spokesman further stated that following the conclusion of investigations, the suspect would be brought before a court of law to face charges related to the alleged fraudulent activities.
