It’s been a wild month in Nollywood, new blockbusters in the cinemas, stars showing off on social media, and a few headlines that got everybody talking. If you’ve been wondering what’s popping in the movie world, here’s the latest gist.
Big Screens, Bigger Stories
October started strong with “Her Excellency”, a political drama that dropped on Independence Day. The movie features Sola Sobowale and Odunlade Adekola, and people can’t stop talking about Sobowale’s power-packed performance. The storyline, corruption, ambition, and power — is hitting close to home for a lot of fans.
Then there’s “Idia”, a supernatural film inspired by Edo legends, starring Mercy Aigbe and Linda Osifo. It’s giving major African mythology meets Hollywood horror vibes, and social media is loving it.
Box Office Talk
If you haven’t heard, “Gingerrr” is the movie of the moment — still holding the number one spot at the box office with over ₦322 million made so far. That’s serious money! It’s proof that Nigerians are still ready to support good stories when they see quality on screen.
Industry Matters
On a more serious note, the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has been calling for better safety and welfare policies after two actors sadly passed away on set earlier this year. President Emeka Rollas said the guild won’t rest until there’s proper structure and protection for everyone in the industry.
Meanwhile, “The Black Book” on Netflix is still trending worldwide. The movie starring Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) is being called one of Nigeria’s biggest international hits yet — even folks in the U.S. and U.K. are talking about it.
Celebrity Corner
Nollywood social media stayed noisy this week. Funke Akindele and Tobi Bakre got fans excited after a behind-the-scenes video from their new project went viral, people are already predicting a cinema hit.
Destiny Etiko also got tongues wagging after showing off her new luxury ride, while Zubby Michael had everyone laughing with one of his dramatic on-set clips. Typical Zubby energy!
What’s Next
From the look of things, Nollywood isn’t slowing down anytime soon. With more streaming deals, international collabs, and bolder scripts, the industry is clearly in its prime. Like one producer said recently, “The world is finally watching us, and we’re ready for it.”
