In a significant realignment of traditional leadership in Ekiti State, the government has appointed His Royal Majesty, Oba Samuel Adejimi Adu Alagbado, Agirilala II, the Ogoga of Ikere‑Ekiti, as the new Chairman of the Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers.
This development follows the formal end of tenure for the outgoing council led by Oba Ayorinde Ilori-Faboro, the Olojudo of Ido-Ekiti, whose two-year leadership concluded on July 31, 2025.
The announcement, made by the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs.) Monisade Afuye, highlighted that the leadership change is part of a constitutionally recognized rotational arrangement among traditional rulers in the state.
Oba Ilori-Faboro was commended for his stewardship during his tenure, with the state government expressing gratitude for the maturity and cooperation he brought to the council. He was praised for fostering harmony among monarchs and contributing meaningfully to the development and peace of the state.
As the new chairman, Oba Samuel Adejimi Alagbado is expected to bring his vast experience and cultural depth to the leadership of the council. Widely respected across Ekiti for his firm but inclusive leadership style, the Ogoga has consistently advocated for community development, education, and cultural preservation.
His appointment has been received with widespread approval, especially in Ikere-Ekiti where celebrations broke out among residents and traditional title holders. Many have described the monarch as a symbol of stability and visionary leadership.
The chairman of the traditional council plays a vital advisory role to the state government, particularly on matters relating to culture, security, community governance, and grassroots mobilization. As chairman, Oba Alagbado will also act as a unifying voice among the Obas of the 16 local government areas in the state.
A formal swearing-in ceremony is expected to be conducted by Governor Biodun Oyebanji at a later date.
Stakeholders across the state have expressed optimism that under Oba Alagbado’s leadership, the council will enjoy greater unity and play a more active role in the state’s developmental agenda.
As chants of “Saaaaaaaaaki oooo!” echoed through Ikere-Ekiti, residents proudly hailed the elevation of their revered monarch, confident that his reign as council chairman will usher in an era of peace, cultural dignity, and inclusive progress for Ekiti State.
