A fresh wave of controversy has erupted within the Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following the release of the delegates list for the 2025 South West Zonal Congress. Prominent among the issues is the conspicuous omission of Prof. Kolapo Olusola Eleka, the immediate past Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, from the list of former deputy governors recognized by the party.
The list, which outlines key positions and party elders across various categories, includes names such as Dr. Sikiru Tae Lawal, Bisi Omoyeni, who many have described as a phantom figure in the state’s political history. The presence of H.E. Biodun Omoyeni under the category of former deputy governors has especially drawn criticism, as political observers and party stakeholders insist no individual by that name has ever held such office in Ekiti State.
It is baffling that someone who never served as deputy governor made the list, while a popular figure like Prof. Kolapo Olusola, who served diligently from 2014 to 2018, is nowhere to be found, said a visibly upset party chieftain who asked not to be named.
Prof. Kolapo Olusola, an academic and seasoned administrator, served as deputy governor under former Governor Ayodele Fayose. His omission is being viewed by many as not just an oversight but a calculated political slight with potential consequences for party unity ahead of upcoming congresses and elections.
The error has sparked outrage among PDP loyalists, especially those aligned with the Fayose political camp. Many believe the omission reflects a deepening internal crisis and question the credibility of the process that produced the list.
This is more than just an administrative blunder, it is a political insult, said another PDP stalwart. If the party cannot properly document its own history, how can it plan for the future?
Party members are now calling for an immediate review and correction of the list, warning that such carelessness could lead to greater discord and disenfranchisement within the ranks of the PDP in Ekiti State.
As of press time, there has been no official statement from the PDP South West Zonal Secretariat on the discrepancies in the list.
