Ahead of the 2026 Ekiti State gubernatorial election, tension appears to be building as Otunba Emmanuel Fayose, a leading governorship aspirant under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) led government of deliberate attempts to suppress his political activities through targeted harassment and censorship.
According to Otunba Fayose, agents believed to be working with the state government have been systematically removing his posters, banners, and billboards across strategic locations in Ekiti. More concerning, he claims, is the refusal of the state signage agency and related bodies to accept levy payments for advertisements from his campaign organization, citing the claim that “it is not yet campaign season.”
This, however, comes in stark contrast to the widespread display of promotional materials featuring Incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji, whose posters and fliers are reportedly visible across the state including roundabouts, public walls, and even public transportation. Otunba Fayose’s camp views this as a clear double standard, calling on Ekiti residents and Nigerians at large to take notice of what they describe as “an early sign of bias and political manipulation.”
Otunba Fayose, a younger brother to former Governor Ayo Fayose, stated that he is in possession of documented evidence and eyewitness reports to support his claims and has expressed concern that such actions by the ruling party may be a precursor to political intimidation and potential violence as the 2026 elections approach.
“This is not just about me; it is about democracy, fairness, and equal opportunity,” he said. “Ekiti belongs to all of us, and no one should be denied the right to freely associate, consult, or express their political aspirations lawfully.” He Reacted.
Despite the alleged suppression, Otunba Emmanuel Fayose remains resolute. He emphasized that his ongoing consultations across local governments and communities have been met with overwhelming support and love from the people of Ekiti State. According to him, his activities have strictly adhered to all legal and electoral guidelines, and he has refused to be distracted by the actions of those he believes fear his rising popularity.
Political observers note that the early tension signals a potentially heated race ahead of the 2026 governorship election. With Otunba Emmanuel Fayose gaining momentum within the PDP and grassroots support swelling, the unfolding events could shape the political climate in Ekiti in the months to come.
The campaign team has vowed to continue its peaceful outreach while exploring legal options to challenge what it describes as “state-sponsored discrimination.”
As of press time, the Ekiti State government and the APC have not officially responded to the allegations.
