A governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2026 election in Ekiti State, Otunba Peter Obafemi, has condemned a killing that took place in Emure Ekiti Sunday evening by suspected herders.
According to a statement issued by Otunba Peter Obafemi (OPO) Media Vanguard, made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Monday, Obafemi condemned the killing of “the innocent girl in the community by suspected herders.”
Recall that it was reported that a 16-year-old girl and his brother were going to the farm on the day, when herders crossed them on their way.
The brother was said to have ran away and escaped; but the young girl was not lucky.
She was said to have refused to be raped, a development that was said to have resulted in her being slaughtered.
Foremost governorship aspirant, Obafemi, while reacting to the development, described the killing as barbaric and unacceptable, and called on security agencies and the Ekiti State government to redouble efforts at addressing insecurity in the state.
“I am deeply saddened about the killing of the innocent girl in Emure-Ekiti by enemies of the state. I condemn in totality this senseless killing and call on both the Ekiti State government and security agencies to be more serious in discharging their constitutional duty of protecting lives and property,’’ he stated.
Obafemi prayed God to comfort the victims’ families and called on all residents of Emure-Ekiti and it’s environs to be vigilant and security-conscious all the time and report any strange faces in their vicinities to nearby police stations.
