In a strong reaffirmation of the Federal Government’s commitment to the welfare of pensioners, the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Mr. Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, has assured that pension payments under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS) remain a top priority.
He emphasized that safeguarding the well-being of senior citizens aligns with the agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Mr. Ogunjimi made this statement on June 25, 2025, during a courtesy visit by the Executive Secretary of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), Dr. Tolulope Odunaiya, to the Treasury House in Abuja. The visit was aimed at reinforcing the collaborative efforts between PTAD and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) to improve pension administration.
During the visit, Dr. Odunaiya praised the OAGF for its longstanding support to PTAD. She noted that the consistent backing from the Accountant-General’s office has significantly contributed to the successful implementation of the DBS. She added that the visit was also part of an ongoing initiative to strengthen strategic partnerships for more effective pension management in Nigeria.
In his remarks, Mr. Ogunjimi commended PTAD for its commitment and notable achievements despite financial challenges. He pledged continuous support from the OAGF, stating that under the Renewed Hope Agenda, the government will ensure pensioners are well cared for. “Pension payments remain a non-negotiable priority,” he declared, assuring that the OAGF would work closely with PTAD to protect the interests of Nigerian retirees.
This renewed commitment by the Federal Government is a reassuring step toward ensuring prompt and efficient pension payments, further underlining the administration’s dedication to social welfare.
