The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Ekiti State Police Command has arrested two suspected notorious car thieves who have been terrorizing residents of Ado-Ekiti and its environs.
According to a statement by the Command, the suspects, identified as Bamisaye Abiodun (35) and Olaniyi Jamiu (35), were apprehended on Monday, August 18, 2025, at about 9:00 a.m., following a credible tip-off.
Investigations revealed that the duo, alongside others currently at large, specialized in stealing vehicles from where they were parked and selling them to receivers. During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to the crime and admitted to being members of the same syndicate as Babalola Ezekiel, who was arrested and prosecuted in 2024 for armed robbery and murder.
The suspects also disclosed that they were on their way to steal another vehicle in the Odo Ado area of Ado-Ekiti when security operatives swooped in and arrested them.
Two Toyota Camry cars were recovered from the suspects, while efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing gang members, their receivers, and to recover more stolen vehicles.
The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, while commending the swift action of the RRS, urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the Police. He assured that the Command remains committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property across the State.
