In a shocking incident, no fewer than five people have been fatally wounded after being struck by gunfire from an officer of the Ekiti State Agro Marshals in Ado Ekiti.
The tragic event unfolded on Thursday between 5 to 6 pm in the Ekute area of Ado Ekiti, where a mild traffic congestion had built up due to a local ceremony. Eyewitnesses reported that the Agro Marshals’ vehicle transporting several officers was caught in the traffic.
According to the accounts, one of the Agro Marshal officers suddenly exited the vehicle in an attempt to clear the road for their passage. Tragically, some of these stray bullets struck and killed at least five individuals, including what appears to have been the officer’s own colleagues.
When interviewed at the Police Clinic in Ado Ekiti, two of the injured officers claimed the shooting was an accidental discharge. However, the Commandant of the Agro Marshal Corps, Mr. Olamide Oni, confirmed to the police that the officer responsible had been apprehended and would be handed over for further investigation.
