A petty disagreement over a wheelbarrow ended in tragedy in Ruwa on Saturday night, as a local man, only identified as Godwin and commonly known as “Bogus,” allegedly beat a client to death following a heated argument.
The deceased, 25-year-old Cyprian Muradzi, had reportedly taken a wheelbarrow belonging to Godwin and hidden it in his house. According to eyewitness accounts and police statements, Godwin confronted Cyprian at his residence in the Danny Bar area around 10 p.m. on June 15. The confrontation quickly turned violent.
During the altercation, Cyprian is said to have thrown bricks at Godwin in an attempt to fend him off. However, Godwin allegedly overpowered him, launching a brutal assault using his fists and feet. The sustained beating left Cyprian unconscious. His wife, who was present during the attack, reportedly screamed for help, drawing the attention of neighbors. By the time they arrived, Godwin had fled the scene.
Emergency services were contacted, and Cyprian’s lifeless body was taken to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination. Law enforcement authorities have since launched a manhunt for Godwin, who remains at large. Police are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in locating the suspect.
The incident has sparked outrage and concern among residents of Ruwa, who say disputes over personal property, though common, rarely escalate to such deadly extremes. Community leaders are calling for more dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution to avoid similar tragedies in the future.
Authorities continue to investigate the case and have urged anyone with relevant information to report to the nearest police station immediately.
