The Ekiti State Government has issued a public travel advisory, urging motorists to take alternative routes into Ado-Ekiti following the worsening condition of the EFON–Itawure–Aramoko–Igede–Iyin road. The move comes after several weeks of mounting complaints from road users, transport operators, and public figures over the deplorable state of some key highways leading into the state capital.
The new advisory, developed in collaboration with the Federal Government, outlines safer and more passable routes from Lagos, Ibadan, Akure, and Abuja. For travelers from Lagos or Ibadan, the recommended route is Iwaraja → Efon → Ipole → Ikogosi → Erijiyan → Ilawe → Ado-Ekiti. Those coming from Akure are advised to take Akure → Igbara-Oke → Igbara-Odo → Ilawe → Ado-Ekiti, while travelers from Abuja are encouraged to use Kabba → Irun-Akoko → Iro-Ekiti → Isinbode → Ikole → Igbemo → Ekiti Ring Road → Ado-Ekiti.
Public frustration over Ekiti’s road conditions reached a boiling point after popular entertainers Will Agba and Kunle Afod publicly condemned the state of the EFON–Itawure–Aramoko–Igede–Iyin corridor. In social media posts, both lamented the severe hardship caused to commuters and residents. Will Agba described the road as “a nightmare to drive on,” while Kunle Afod called on authorities to “prioritize repairs urgently to save lives and boost economic activity.”
The state government has asked residents to disregard misleading online claims about road projects, stressing that it remains committed to infrastructure development. In the statement accompanying the travel advisory, the government assured that it will continue to invest in road rehabilitation, while working with federal authorities to fix the two remaining federal roads in the state that have yet to be awarded for reconstruction.
While the alternative routes may provide short-term relief for travelers, many in the state believe that urgent and lasting repairs to the EFON–Itawure–Aramoko–Igede–Iyin road are essential to prevent further disruption to trade, travel, and economic life in Ekiti. Until then, motorists are advised to adhere strictly to the recommended routes to ensure safer and smoother journeys into Ado-Ekiti.
