Otunba Yinka Akerele, a prominent politician and member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, has been indefinitely suspended by his ward, Ayede North Ward 9, Oye Local Government Area. The decision was made during a well-attended meeting on Sunday, November 24, 2024.
According to party leaders at the meeting, Akerele was accused of engaging in heresy and persistent anti-party activities, which they described as gross misconduct. His actions, they claimed, have undermined the principles of the PDP.![]()
In light of these allegations, Akerele has been stripped of all privileges associated with his PDP membership and barred from parading himself as a member of the party. His current political appointment in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), where he reportedly earns a salary, was cited as evidence of his anti-party stance, which party leaders called “completely ridiculous.”
A five-member disciplinary committee, chaired by former councillor Hon. Sunday Fuji, has been set up to investigate the allegations against Akerele. The committee has been given four weeks to submit its report.
This decision marks a significant turning point in Akerele’s political career, as he now faces the possibility of permanent expulsion from the PDP.
