Lere Olayinka, a former media aide to ex-Governor Ayodele Fayose, has faulted former Governor Kayode Fayemi over his recent political moves in Ekiti State, describing them as “damage control” and lacking genuine support.
In a strongly worded statement titled “Fayemi’s ‘Iru Wa Ogiri Wa’ and A Betrayal’s Damage Control,” Olayinka said Governor Biodun Oyebanji (BAO) currently enjoys widespread support across different segments of Ekiti society, unlike Fayemi, whose political influence has waned.
According to him, Fayemi’s alleged betrayal of those who assisted his rise to power, including Fayose, has left him politically isolated.
“A Fayemi, who didn’t become the Governor of Ekiti by his own strength and efforts, and who serially betrayed those who made him governor twice, will naturally be envious of the overwhelming support Governor Oyebanji is enjoying today,” Olayinka said.
He added that his own support for Governor Oyebanji’s reelection was based on Fayose’s directive, stressing that Oyebanji has conducted himself as a “thoroughbred Omoluabi” who does not persecute critics or treat opponents as enemies.
Olayinka maintained that Fayemi’s attempt to realign himself politically by leveraging Fayose’s influence would not succeed.
“You cannot be against the reelection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and still claim to be in support of Governor Oyebanji. Or can someone claim to love a child and hate his father?” he queried.
He further argued that Fayemi’s late support for Oyebanji was opportunistic and a “baggage no one will like to carry,” while predicting that Fayemi’s political relevance would diminish completely after the governor secures reelection.
“The damage control Fayemi is using Fayose to do, trying to impress Governor Oyebanji, cannot fly. The governor knows his genuine supporters,” he said.
Olayinka concluded that as a patriotic Ekiti indigene, he would continue to give Governor Oyebanji the support that Fayemi “never intended to give until he saw there was nowhere else to hide.”
