The Oba Dr. Samuel Adejimi Adu Alagbado, Ogoga of Ikere, has unequivocally distanced himself from political activities and alleged endorsements circulating within the township, declaring that the palace must not be drawn into partisan affairs.
Speaking during a telephone interview on Friday evening, the monarch dismissed claims that he or the Ogoga-in-Council had thrown their weight behind Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji or any other political aspirant, insisting that his revered office demands strict neutrality.
“I am not a politician,” the Ogoga stated firmly, warning individuals and political groups against invoking his name or the authority of the palace to advance electoral interests. He described such actions as not only misleading but also disrespectful to the sanctity of the traditional institution.
As the supreme traditional ruler and spiritual head of Ikere Kingdom, the monarch stressed that his responsibility is to uphold peace, unity, and the rich cultural heritage of his people, duties that place him above the contestations of partisan politics.
The royal father further expressed concern over what he described as attempts to drag the throne into “the murky waters of electioneering,” noting that such moves risk undermining the dignity and neutrality that the institution represents.
Addressing speculations surrounding the ongoing political climate, the Ogoga pointed out that it would be improper, and a clear conflict of moral authority, for him to take sides in a race that reportedly involves his own son, Dr. Wole Oluyede. He emphasized that, as a father to all Ikere indigenes, the palace remains open to every aspirant without bias.
“My blessings are for all my children,” he said, reinforcing his commitment to fairness and inclusivity.
Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports have begun to circulate within Ikere’s political circles, alleging that a prominent legal figure and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) from the township may be working behind the scenes to influence the dynamics of the race. The speculation suggests efforts to sideline other contenders in order to position his own son for future political advantage after the tenure of Governor Oyebanji.
However, these claims remain largely speculative and have been met with skepticism by observers.
Despite the growing intrigue, the Ogoga maintained that his focus remains unwavering, the peace, stability, and development of Ikere land. He reiterated that the choice of leadership rests solely with the people, urging all stakeholders to conduct their political activities responsibly and without compromising the unity of the community.
In a period marked by heightened political maneuvering, the monarch’s intervention serves as a clear reminder of the enduring role of traditional institutions as custodians of harmony, standing above the shifting tides of politics while safeguarding the collective identity of the people.
