Former Senate Minority Leader, Biodun Olujimi, has formally declared her intention to return to the National Assembly after obtaining the All Progressives Congress (APC) Expression of Interest and Nomination forms to contest the Ekiti South Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
Olujimi picked the forms at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, signalling what observers describe as a significant re-entry into frontline politics within the state’s evolving political landscape.
Speaking shortly after completing the process, the former lawmaker said her decision followed sustained appeals from stakeholders across Ekiti South Senatorial District, comprising six local government areas. According to her, the calls came from a broad spectrum of constituents, including women, youths, community leaders and political actors seeking experienced leadership.
“Ekiti South deserves a strong and effective voice in the 11th Senate, one that understands the terrain, has the network at the federal level, and can attract tangible dividends of democracy. I offer myself again to serve, to unify, and to deliver,” she said.
A seasoned politician, Olujimi previously served one term in the House of Representatives, two terms in the Senate and also held office as Deputy Governor of Ekiti State. During her legislative career, she was credited with facilitating key constituency projects, including sections of the Ado–Ikere–Ise road, maternal healthcare centres, and youth-focused empowerment programmes.
Her latest move comes amid early political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with parties and aspirants positioning for what is expected to be a competitive contest in Ekiti South.
Olujimi also commended the leadership of the APC at both federal and state levels, acknowledging the role of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Ekiti State Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji in strengthening party cohesion and ensuring what she described as a fair environment for aspirants.
She noted that consultations with party stakeholders and constituents are ongoing, as she seeks to consolidate support across the senatorial district.
Political analysts say her entry into the race could reshape the dynamics of the Ekiti South contest, given her experience, name recognition and established grassroots network.
The Ekiti South Senatorial seat is expected to attract multiple contenders as the election cycle approaches, with parties intensifying internal processes in the months ahead.
