The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has conducted its governorship primary election in Ekiti State, marking a significant step in the party’s preparation for the 2026 gubernatorial race. The primary, which took place across designated electoral wards, drew attention from political observers, party stakeholders, delegates, and supporters, all keen to see who would emerge as the party’s standard-bearer ahead of the crucial contest.
Among the leading aspirants who offered themselves for the party’s ticket were former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Professor Kolapo Olusola Eleka, renowned for his academic pedigree and experience in governance; Barr. Femi Adegboye, a grassroots mobilizer and legal professional; and Ambassador Dare Bejide, a seasoned diplomat, administrator, and statesman with decades of service both within Nigeria and in international roles. Also listed in the primary contest were Dr. Olumuyiwa and Otunba Emmanuel Fayose, a businessman and political stakeholder in the state.
According to the official ADC result sheet, which captured votes cast by accredited delegates at one of the key collation points, Ambassador Dare Bejide secured a commanding victory, polling 475 votes, far ahead of his closest contenders. Professor Eleka garnered 20 votes, while Barrister Adegboye received 30 votes. The other aspirants recorded no votes at this particular center.
The result sheet, clearly bearing the party’s header and authentication fields, reflects the overwhelming support Bejide enjoys within the party’s delegate structure—an indication of his robust political alliances, long-standing relationships across local structures, and reputation for leadership stability.
Ambassador Bejide’s political career spans various strategic positions, including serving Nigeria in diplomatic and administrative capacities. His emergence is expected to inject renewed confidence within the ADC as it attempts to reposition itself as a formidable contender in Ekiti’s traditionally competitive political arena, often dominated by the APC and PDP.
Party stakeholders at the venue described the exercise as peaceful, transparent, and orderly, with observers and agents signing and monitoring proceedings throughout. Delegates were said to have voted freely, and turnout was reported to be encouraging.
Meanwhile, supporters of Ambassador Bejide have begun celebrating across different wards, describing the victory as a “reflection of party grassroots will” and “a sign of better days ahead” for the ADC. Calls have also emerged for unity among aspirants in order to consolidate the party’s strength ahead of the general election campaign trail.
Political analysts believe the coming months will determine how well the ADC can leverage Bejide’s victory to expand its coalition, articulate a strong development agenda, and engage electorates across the three senatorial districts of Ekiti State.
The party’s national leadership is expected to officially ratify the primary results in due course, after which campaign structures and strategic consultations are anticipated to intensify.
With the emergence of Ambassador Dare Bejide, the ADC has now positioned itself to enter the 2026 governorship race with a clear direction, a recognizable figure, and renewed enthusiasm among supporters across the state.
