The Catholic Diocese of Ekiti has announced the passing of its first Bishop, Most Rev. Michael Olatunji Fagun, who was called to eternal rest in the late hours of Monday, October 13, 2025, at the age of 90.
According to an official statement signed by Rev. Fr. Kehinde Temitope Ajayi, the Diocesan Secretary, Bishop Fagun dedicated his life to the service of God and humanity throughout his priestly and episcopal ministry.
Born on April 17, 1935, Bishop Fagun was ordained a priest on July 4, 1965, and later consecrated as Bishop on October 10, 1971. He served faithfully as the pioneering Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ekiti before retiring as Bishop Emeritus.
The statement reads in part:
“To God be all the glory for all his services to God in the Catholic Church and humanity. May God grant him eternal life.”
The Diocese requested prayers for the repose of Bishop Fagun’s soul and comfort for his family, friends, and the entire Catholic community. Details of the funeral arrangements will be announced later.
“May God continue to bless, sustain, strengthen, protect and guide the Catholic Diocese of Ekiti, Bishop Fagun’s nuclear and extended families, friends, and well-wishers. Amen,” the statement added.
Bishop Fagun was widely respected for his devotion, humility, and contributions to the growth of the Catholic faith in Ekiti and beyond.
