A group, under the auspices of Ekiti State Liberation Movement (ESLM), has endorsed the ambition of Ekiti State-born aviation expert Otunba Olugbenga Peter Obafemi, popularly known as “OPO” to run for the governorship race of Ekiti state, come 2026 on the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The State coordinator of the group, Honourable Adeyemo Babatunde, who made the declaration of his members’ resolve known in a statement signed and made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday, described Otunba Obafemi as the best candidate for the exalted position.
He said the renowned businessman was capable of rescuing the people of the state from the current hardship, poverty, and underdevelopment coming from the maladministration of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Adeyemo Babatunde, however, commended the PDP governorship aspirant for considering the people’s clarion call to “come, salvage, redeem and rebuild the human and infrastructural decay that has bedeviled the state under the Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji-led administration in the state.”
The state coordinator also described Obafemi as a tested technocrat and seasoned administrator, whose wealth of experience was second to none among the governorship aspirants in Ekiti State.
He said Obafemi deserved the support of all, both at the primary election level and the main governorship contest in 2026.
According to Adeyemo, “Our movement’s endorsement of Otunba Peter Obafemi is as a result of his track records of human development, accountability and transparency, generosity and selflessness, fairness, justice and, above all, fear of God.”
He especially attested to Obafemi’s humanitarian posture of giving scholarships to indigent students across all institutions of learning in Ekiti State, Empowerment and engagement of widows and youths, and active participation in community development.
Adeyemo implored other aspirants, in the spirit of brotherhood, to rally around the aspiration of “one of their own, Otunba Peter Obafemi, OPO, who is a detribalized Nigerian,” to guarantee our victory and ultimate political liberation in the
