SSANIP: Idris Kehinde Elected Chairman As Acting Rector Urges Industrial Harmony

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP), Federal Polytechnic Ayede Chapter, has elected a new set of executives to pilot the affairs of the union following a peaceful and successful election held on Monday at the institution’s TETFund Building.

The exercise, conducted by the SSANIP Electoral Committee, was chaired by Comrade Akinloye Inaolaji Adisa, FCIFC, with Comrade Mrs. B.F. Ojo serving as the Electoral Secretary. The election attracted principal officers of the institution, union members and other stakeholders.

At the end of the poll, Comrade Idris Kehinde Ismail, who had served as the Acting Chairman of the chapter, was elected as the substantive Chairman of the union.

Other officials elected unopposed were Comrade Onifade John Olalekan as Vice Chairman, Arc. Moruf Olapade Isola as General Secretary, Comrade Jimoh Adekunle as Assistant Secretary, Comrade Oyeniyi Dupeola F. as Financial Secretary, Comrade Jibrin Nasir Adah as Public Relations Officer and Comrade Ishmaeel Wasiu Abiola as Auditor.

The Treasurer’s position was the only office that witnessed a contest. Comrade Alaanu Ayomi polled 39 votes to defeat Comrade Oyeleke Peter Adewale, who secured 18 votes. In recognition of his commitment to the union, Oyeleke was subsequently appointed as Trustee.

In his acceptance remarks, the newly elected Chairman expressed gratitude to members for the confidence reposed in him, describing their mandate as a sacred trust that would be protected through transparency, accountability and dedicated service.

Earlier, while presenting his manifesto to members, Idris pledged to consolidate the achievements of the immediate past leadership and build a stronger, more united SSANIP.

He promised to vigorously defend the rights and welfare of members in line with the union’s constitution, ensure prompt dissemination of information, strengthen communication between the leadership and members, and maintain a cordial working relationship with the institution’s management and sister unions without compromising the independence of SSANIP.

He also assured members of prudent management of the union’s finances and resources, strict adherence to the constitution, respect for the hierarchy of the union at the zonal and national levels, and active participation in statutory meetings and programmes.

According to him, his administration will prioritise manpower development through capacity-building initiatives, encourage wider consultation with executive members and stakeholders before taking major decisions, and promote policies that will strengthen the unity, relevance and independence of the union.

“I humbly solicit your vote as a trust with a pledge to hold it sacrosanct,” he told members while seeking their support.

In the same vein, the newly elected General Secretary, Arc. Moruf Olapade Isola, assured members that he would build on the existing foundation of the union by running a functional, efficient and accessible secretariat.

He pledged to maintain accurate records, ensure prompt communication with members, strengthen welfare programmes, operate a transparent secretariat, encourage active participation through regular meetings and digital communication platforms, and support initiatives that would promote unity, professional development and the overall growth of the union. He also promised to discharge his responsibilities with honesty, diligence and accountability.

The Acting Rector of Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Dr. T.M. Adepoju, who attended the election in person, congratulated the newly elected executives on their victory and described the peaceful conduct of the exercise as a reflection of the institution’s commitment to industrial harmony.

She urged the new leadership to regard their election as a call to selfless service and not an opportunity for personal gain, reminding them that members had entrusted them with the responsibility of protecting staff welfare and advancing the collective interests of the union.

She stressed that continuous cooperation, mutual respect and open communication between management and staff unions would further strengthen industrial peace and contribute significantly to the growth, stability and development of Federal Polytechnic Ayede.

The Acting Rector reaffirmed the commitment of the institution’s management to maintaining a healthy working relationship with SSANIP and other staff unions, assuring them of continued support in areas that would promote staff welfare, institutional excellence and quality service delivery.

Also present at the event was the Deputy Registrar, Mr. G.K Olatinwo, who represented the Registrar, Mr. Akinlolu Akinpelu And the Bursar, Mr Alao.

Representatives of the association in the zone were also present at the meeting, lending their support to the proceedings and contributing meaningfully to discussions. Their presence underscored the unity, cooperation and shared commitment of members within the zone towards achieving the objectives of the association.
