A former House of Assembly candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for Ikere Constituency 1, Owoeye Oyeniyi, has officially resigned his membership from the party.
In a formal letter dated April 17, 2026, and addressed to the party chairman in Ikere-Ekiti, Oyeniyi communicated his decision to withdraw from the PDP with immediate effect. The letter reflects a deliberate and orderly exit, ensuring that the party leadership was duly informed in accordance with political and administrative norms.
Despite his departure, Oyeniyi maintained a tone of appreciation and goodwill. He acknowledged the opportunities he experienced during his time with the party, noting that his association with the PDP was marked by memorable and positive moments.
“I am grateful for the good times and the platform the party provided me,” he stated, signaling that his resignation was not borne out of conflict but rather a personal decision.
He further extended his best wishes to the PDP, expressing hope for the party’s continued progress and success in its future political engagements.
Oyeniyi previously contested as a PDP candidate for the Ekiti State House of Assembly, representing Ikere Constituency 1. His resignation marks a notable development within the local political landscape, although he did not disclose his next political move or future affiliations.
Political observers in Ikere-Ekiti say the development may have implications for grassroots mobilization and party dynamics in the constituency, especially as parties continue to strengthen their structures ahead of future elections.
