
The project, fully funded by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), was executed under the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, led by Dr. Bosun Tijani.
The ICT Centre, situated within the main campus, comprises of modern computer laboratories, smart-board-enabled classrooms, a high-speed wireless internet network, video conferencing suites, and a digital e-library. The facility is designed to support classroom instruction, research development, and hands-on training in digital skills for both staff and students.
The Rector, Engr. Taofeek Abdulhameed, who was represented by the Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Ogunniyi, conveyed the management’s appreciation to the Federal Government for the intervention. In the address delivered on his behalf, the Rector described the project as a strategic boost to the institution’s digital transformation drive. He affirmed the Polytechnic’s commitment to maintaining the facility and integrating it fully into academic and technical programmes.
Dr. Ogunniyi, in his own remarks, stated that the facility would significantly enhance the institution’s teaching and research output. He noted that with the commissioning of the Centre, Federal Polytechnic Ayede is better positioned to implement digital learning models in line with national education and innovation policies.
The contractor’s representative, Mr. Alabi Oluwaseun, conducted a technical demonstration of the installed equipment. He highlighted key features of the project, including high-performance computing units, interactive learning systems, and digital access platforms designed to meet institutional needs.
The Director of Academic Planning, Dr. T.M. Adepoju, described the NITDA facilitated ICT Centre as a timely and impactful intervention. She noted that the facility would deepen academic collaboration, facilitate technical research, and prepare students for future demands in the digital economy.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by principal officers, heads of departments, representatives of the Academic Board, Staff of the ICT Unit and other departments were also present, reflecting the Polytechnic’s operational readiness for the immediate deployment of the Centre.
In the same development, the Acting Director of the Centre for Information, Communication and Public Relations (CICPR), Mr. Sunday Adepoju, coordinated the proceedings and introduced stakeholders and dignitaries in attendance.
In a closing statement delivered on behalf of the Rector, Dr. Ogunniyi commended the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy for prioritising ICT infrastructure across tertiary institutions. He added that the commissioning of the ICT Centre has elevated Federal Polytechnic Ayede’s capacity to serve as a model for digital learning and innovation.
