Governor Oyebanji’s Second Term Bid: A Blend of Performance and Omoluabi Values

Governor Biodun Oyebanji, affectionately known as BAO, is making waves in Ekiti State as he seeks re-election. His administration, which has been marked by a series of significant infrastructure projects and economic initiatives, has garnered considerable support from the local populace despite being only halfway through his first term.

A recent conversation with political analyst Adekoya Lateeph Adewumi revealed the enthusiasm surrounding Oyebanji’s leadership. Adekoya noted that BAO has demonstrated a unique capacity for governance, combining pragmatism with a deep understanding of the needs of his constituents. This has shaped him into a humane and level-headed leader, qualities that have resonated well with the people of Ekiti.

Upon taking office, Governor Oyebanji committed to completing the unfinished projects of his predecessor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi. Among these projects, the Cargo Airport stands out, nearing completion with essential facilities like a Control Tower and Emergency Operations Office. The operational launch of this airport is anticipated to boost agriculture and investment, providing a significant economic lift to the state.

In addition to the airport, Oyebanji has initiated a new ring road, a landmark policy that connects Iworoko to the Ekiti State International Cargo Airport and the Ekiti Knowledge Zone. This road is expected to enhance trade, promote tourism, and facilitate the smooth transport of agricultural products across the region.

Further infrastructure developments include the construction of a flyover at Ijigbo junction, aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in Ado Ekiti. The revitalization of Ikogosi Warm Spring is also in progress, which is set to attract both local and international tourists and serve as a venue for business meetings and conferences.

Ekiti State has been selected to participate in the Nigerian Investment Certification Programme for States, a joint initiative of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This program aims to create a more investor-friendly environment in Ekiti, which is crucial for driving economic growth.

As a state rich in human capital, Ekiti boasts the highest number of professors in Nigeria, providing a robust talent pool for potential investors. Governor Oyebanji’s administration has prioritized establishing strong institutions that support sustainable growth and development across various sectors, including tourism, agriculture, and technology.

The “Bring Back Youth into Agriculture” initiative has inspired hundreds of young people to engage in high-yield crop production through modern agricultural practices. Cluster farms have been established throughout the state, generating employment and contributing to food security.

In response to economic challenges, Governor Oyebanji has introduced measures worth over 12 billion naira to support salary earners and small businesses. These measures aim to increase disposable income, especially in light of the recent fuel subsidy removal that has impacted many households.

Adekoya emphasized that BAO’s administration has earned respect from political opponents, demonstrating exceptional leadership that fosters peace and cooperation among stakeholders. His commitment to the principles of “Ekiti First, Ekiti Together, and Ekiti Forward” reflects a vision that transcends party lines.

As Ekiti Kete celebrates its second anniversary, the momentum for Governor Oyebanji’s re-election continues to build. His focus on infrastructure development, economic stability, and social harmony positions him as a leader deserving of the support and trust of the people of Ekiti State.
