HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO STUDENT LOANS SCHEME

The House of Representatives has reiterated its dedication to the success of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which has begun disbursing monthly stipends to students. As of July, 20,371 students across six tertiary institutions have received N20,000 monthly stipends.

The House Committee on Student Loan, Scholarship, and Higher Education Financing, chaired by Rep. Gboyega Isiaka, praised NELFUND’s progress, stating that it represents a significant step forward in supporting higher education.

NELFUND has approved and disbursed over N2.5 billion in student loans, benefiting 22,120 students across twelve institutions. The House of Representatives is committed to addressing economic challenges affecting students and expanding NELFUND to more tertiary institutions.

Students are encouraged to apply for the scheme through the NELFUND portal, and institutions are urged to submit complete student data promptly.

The House of Representatives remains dedicated to ensuring the efficient implementation of the NELFUND initiative and advocating for measures to improve access to quality education.
