In a show of unity and determination, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders and stakeholders in Oye Local Government Area (LGA) have endorsed Prince Funso Ayeni as their sole candidate for the position of Ekiti State PDP Chairman.
The endorsement came during a meeting held in Oye Ekiti, where the LGA Executive Committee, party leaders, and ward executives from all 12 wards unanimously backed Ayeni’s aspiration.
In addition to the endorsement, the party leaders also approved the suspensions of two key figures – Hon. Tunji Akinyele, a former Board of Trustees member, and Chief Paul Oluwole, the State Treasurer of the PDP. The two were suspended from their respective wards for engaging in anti-party activities and allegedly aligning with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its former governor, Ayodele Fayose.
Speaking at the meeting, the Oye LGA PDP Chairman, Hon. Segun Ayeni, stated that the party leaders have dissociated themselves from Fayose’s “anti-party activities” and made it clear that he is not welcome in Oye LG. The leaders resolved to take a firm stand against anyone associated with the “Fayose anti-party card” in the local government.
The party leaders also expressed their commitment to work closely with the Oye LGA PDP leadership, including Hon. Dr. Samuel Omotoso and Bar. Ben Akomolafe, to revive the party’s fortunes and position it for victory in the upcoming elections.
Stakeholders called on Senator Mrs. Biodun Olujimi to continue her efforts in rallying the party for political progress.
This development comes at a crucial time for the PDP in Ekiti State, as the party seeks to regain control of the state government after a period of APC dominance. The endorsement of Funso Ayeni and the crackdown on perceived disloyal elements are seen as crucial steps in the party’s efforts to present a united front and strengthen its chances in the upcoming elections.
