In a heartfelt address to the nation, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu acknowledged the challenges faced by Nigerians as the country marks its 64th Independence Anniversary. He expressed his administration’s commitment to addressing issues such as rising living costs and unemployment, urging citizens to remain patient as reforms take root.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s journey since gaining independence, President Tinubu emphasized the resilience of the nation, highlighting its survival through numerous crises that have beset many countries worldwide. He noted that, despite past struggles, Nigeria continues to embrace its diversity and work towards a more united future.

The President announced significant strides in security, declaring that the government is making progress in combating terrorism and banditry. He reported the elimination of over 300 Boko Haram and bandit commanders, restoring peace to hundreds of communities in the northern regions. This progress, he stated, is essential for revitalizing agriculture and reducing food costs.

In addressing the economy, President Tinubu shared that reforms have attracted over $30 billion in foreign direct investment within the past year. He outlined plans for fiscal policy reforms aimed at stimulating investment and reducing tax burdens on businesses and workers.

The President also announced the launch of a National Youth Conference to engage the youth, who represent over 60% of Nigeria’s population, in meaningful dialogue on issues affecting their future. This initiative aims to empower young people and ensure their voices are integral to national policymaking.

Additionally, he discussed various programs aimed at job creation and support for students, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund and the Renewed Hope Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme, which aims to create 2.5 million jobs annually.

President Tinubu urged Nigerians to believe in their nation’s promise and to work together towards a brighter future. He expressed optimism that with collective effort, Nigeria can overcome its challenges and build a prosperous future for all citizens.

“We are Nigerians—resilient and tenacious. We always prevail and rise above our circumstances,” he stated, wishing all Nigerians a happy independence anniversary.
